SISTER MINISTRIES:
CMJ - The Church's Ministry Among Jewish People

CMJ (The Church's Ministry Among Jewish People) is the current name of the society that built Christ Church in the 1840's.

Based in St Albans, England, this Anglican Society has a mandate to take the Gospel 'to the Jew first', and values its unique position in that respect.

Recently the CMJ Council approved a change in the aims of the Society from the "Three 'E's" of Evangelism, Education and Encouragement, to include "The Seven 'Ion's" of Proclamation. Intercession, Vision, Compassion, Co-operation, Education and Reconciliation.

CMJ in England have currently four Regional Advisers, who travel around large areas of the country, preaching and teaching on Jewish Roots, Christian Anti-Jewishness and Christian Antisemitism. There is a Bible Exhibition where a large number of artefacts and mementoes from Israel are displayed, and a 6 times a year magazine called "Shalom"

CMJ in Ireland is administered by two committees, one in the north and one in the south, and has been built up over the past 190 years. Alan Stracey who organised and built up the ministry in both parts of the country for many years until becoming too ill to travel around as he did, is still in leadership

Shoresh, a Hebrew word meaning 'root,' is the name given to a Travel and Study company established in 1987 to bring pilgrims to Israel to get a 'tour with a difference' All the Guides used by Shoresh are believers, and many of them are Jewish believers. Shoresh has a reputation for being a tour for serious Bible students.

Shoresh has offices in Jerusalem, at Christ Church, and at St Albans, England, and autonomous sister ministries in America and Australia.

Shoresh USA is an entirely autonomous ministry that birthed the Shoresh programme about 16 years ago, out of the need that was perceived to bring groups of believers to Israel and give them a 'tour with a difference' the 'difference' being the Jewish roots aspect. Today Shoresh USA has as its raison d'etre the principal of "Teaching Jewish roots - reaching Jewish people" and focuses on education and evangelism. A new venture, launched in January 2002 is Alexander College which it is intended will bring seminarians and other serious Bible students to the land of Israel for [up to] a semester, and offer a full credit course.
